In 2002, Steve Courneyea was sitting outside a hospital with ripped stitches in his right arm, taking stock of his life.
The day before, Steve had been stabbed several times over a small bag of crack cocaine on the streets of Vancouver, and after leaving the hospital to get high, he’d accidentally reopened the wound. The doctors weren’t able to stitch it closed a second time, so wrapped bandages and a scar along the inside of his arm would have to do.
