With the Stanley Cup Playoffs officially over, I thought now would be a great time to look at both of my busted brackets. This year, the NHL’s official bracket challenge allowed participants to create three brackets instead of just one. It’s a pretty good thing too, cause the one bracket only kind of screwed me last season.

Yeah, whoops.
That being said, even with new rules in place I still had little success on the bracket front.

In my hardcore, “hockey analyst” bracket, I showed my knowledge by picking the St. Louis Blues, which seemed pretty solid. But I also looked at previous playoffs and thought, “If the Kings and Rangers each beat the Sharks and Penguins in recent years, they’ll do it again this year!”
Oh, how wrong I was.
The Blues did end up making the Western Conference Final, but they ended up running into the runaway train from San Jose. The Capitals were my runners-up, but they lost out to the eventual champion Penguins.
Which brings us to my fantasy bracket.

My fantasy bracket choices came solely from my personal biases. The dream of seeing Roberto Luongo lifting the Cup with have to wait another year, thanks to the Islanders knocking out Lu’s Panthers in Round One. I nearly went perfect in the West, but the Stars were still too much for the Wild.
Ah well, as we say in Vancouver, “There’s always next year”.
